Creative Haydn

Haydn has had his creative juices flowing lately.  The other day he found a box in my room and asked it he could have it.  I came down and saw him punching holes in it with a screwdriver.  I was told they were airholes.  With a little direction we turned it into a robot.  He and Tristan colored it.  Later Haydn also painted it.
The next day he wanted a hat to go with it.  He got the idea from a Curious George episode, hence the tall yellow hat.  Again he and Tristan colored in and covered it in stickers.  I also helped him cut a door into it so that he could put snacks in it and lift the flap to get what he wanted. He tried to explain what he wanted but ended up showing me the show so that I could do it exactly how George had.  Here he is showing off all sides of his creation.

Another afternoon Haydn's goal was to build tall crazy towers.  I love this kid and his imagination!

The Force is strong with this one...

Star Wars is "THE THING" at our house right now. Connor is Obi-Wan Kenobi and Haydn is Anakin Skywalker, his apprentice. Even Tristan has been named R2D2 (I think he sounds more like a Wookie though). I can't tell you how many times I tie capes around them in one day. Haydn is constantly telling me that he is Anakin Skywalker and asking if I am Padme or Obi-Wan Kenobi. Scott is obviously getting a kick out of the whole thing. The boys anxiously await their father's return home in the hopes that they can watch more Star Wars or play Star Wars on the Wii with him.

"My Friends"

"Mom, can I watch a movie with my 'friends'?" Haydn's has been referring to his toys as his friends, it's sooooo cute. In this case he was talking about the 15 cars he had stuffed in his pockets! I love little boys!

A BIG Accomplishment!

If you don't want to read about my son's bowel movements stop here...Also if you have a 1,2,3 or sometimes 4 year old who is potty training, be prepared to be jealous!

Haydn and Connor were playing in the McDonald's play scape tonight and Connor brought Haydn to me and said, "Mom, he wants you." I asked Haydn what he needed and he proceeded to tell me "Poopy!" while holding his bum (he usually does come tell me after he's gone). I thought, "Oh yeah (sarcastic), lets go change you!" and we headed to the public bathroom. I laid him on the changing table only to realize he wasn't poopy. I said, "Haydn you aren't poopy. Do you want to go potty?" "Yeah!" he said. So, I got him all ready and sat him down thinking he wouldn't like the feel of the big toilet and back out of the idea. I WAS WRONG! He did his business and actually pooped in the potty! YEAH!!! He's not even 2 and he's not getting much pushing from me. I don't even bribe him by giving treats for a job well done. I haven't needed to. I only take him potty when he asks and he's already starting to tell me before he needs to go! This is so like Haydn to just figure it out on his own. He doesn't rely on me to teach him new skills like Connor does. Connor is happy relying on me to do it and usually puts up a fight when I try to teach him to do something himself. Not Haydn. Haydn watches and if he sees it can be done he teaches himself to do it. Go Haydn! I'm so proud. Looks like we'll be out of diapers sooner than we thought!

I'm a Big Boy Now

Every night as we get ready for bed the boys get undressed and I ask Connor to go to the bathroom. All the sudden, Haydn has become fascinated with his little potty and wants to go every time I mention the word. Last night I gave the kids a bath and when he was naked he asked to go potty. So I put him on the big potty and held him. He actually got just a little "pee" out. Then he went to sit on his potty while Connor was going before bed. He got on and off a few times but then sat there and actually went potty in the potty! I am so proud! Not sure I'm ready for him to potty train. He's not quite ready but I think he'll be an easy one like Connor! Here's hoping! Go Haydn!

Cool Dude

We were having a little fun with Haydn this afternoon. He's got a nice little mohawk and sunglasses. He goes around saying "Oooo Dooo" (Cool Dude). He's always trying to carry too much. He can't ever just hold one car, for instance, he needs 3 or 4. In the pic he wouldn't let go of the cup to play with the ball. He insists he can do both and doesn't need help.

Building a Pool

One of the favorite new things the boys like to do is dig a pool at the beach so that we have a spot to splash in outside the ocean. Haydn LOVES this. He'll go around the back of the pool, where a lot of the sand is built up from digging, and jump in the water. Here's some more pics of us enjoying the beach!

Sooo tired...

We had such a fun morning, just me and the boys, playing around! Obviously we played hard because this is how Haydn ended lunch. I love, love, LOVE it when they fall asleep in random places like this. It doesn't happen often so I'll take it when I can. What a cutie!

Haydn's Words

I was trying to get Haydn to show off his talking a little for the camera for the other day. He cooperated a little but mostly was just being silly and cute. Here's a video of this cutie. Sorry it's a little long, I have a hard time putting my camera down because my kids are the most adorable things in the whole world.

Wii

For Scott's law school graduation the kids and I got him a Wii. It has been well loved ever since! Our favorite game is Mario Kart. Even Haydn loves it as you can see!

Eating Adventures

Haydn has recently decided that he can feed himself. He's actually very good at using a spoon or fork and getting food into his mouth (with the grace of a one year old, of course). The video was taken a few weeks ago and is the epitome of how meals are at our house. My small children love playing while eating (I'm sure yours are angels with perfect manners). Today, Haydn thought of a faster way to eat his yogurt. It was very effective as well as super cute!

Pool Blast

We are having soooo much fun now that the pools at the local parks are open for the summer. It is so refreshing to play in the cool water on a hot day. The pool we go to has a great mushroom-like waterfall in the middle that is really awesome! Haydn is quite the little dare devil! He can run in and out of the waterfall, crawl on his hands and knees and sit in the water up to his neck all with no fear. He frequently takes plunges under the water, because his body isn't big enough to withstand the water throwing him about in the deep parts, but it doesn't phase him AT ALL! I'll help him up and he'll immediately want back down and go back to what he was doing. I've even seen him fall under and get himself up before I could get there. It amazes everyone watching! Connor can stick his head under the water and keep his eyes open to see where he is going now too. My kids continue to be water babies! Sorry there are so many pics. I took over 200 at the pool today. The boys were being so cute I had to make myself put the camera down!

Big Bed Troubles

Haydn has been sleeping in his toddler bed these days. For the most part, I can count on a little trouble getting him to stay in bed but he eventually gets it. He's had some funny things happen though. Yesterday at about 4 am I heard frantic screaming from the boys room. I went to Haydn's bed and although I heard him clearly I couldn't find him ANYWHERE. Finally, after searching all over his bed and the room, I knelt down and found a foot. He apparently had fallen and rolled under the bed and was trapped. As soon as I pulled him out and laid him down he was out--seriously as quick as snapping my fingers he was out again. Then last night Connor came downstairs about an hour after I had put them to bed and said, "Mommy, Haydn is sleeping so funny you have to come see! He has his feet on the floor!" Here is what we found... I love finding both my boys in silly sleeping positions. They are both such wiggly sleepers.

Big Beds For Big Boys

Here come the big boy beds! Connor just turned 4 and is growing like a weed! We had talked about getting him a twin bed at the end of the summer when we actually have steady income but then found this awesome bed frame! Someone was going to throw this awesome race car bed out so we snatched it up and Connor is THRILLED! I love how you can put your child in a bigger bed and all the sudden the seem small again!
Since Connor moved out of the toddler bed I decided to see if Haydn is ready for it. He's already climbed out of his crib before and instead of waiting for him to do it again I thought I'd at least see if I could get him to stay in bed. Well so far so good, I'm happy to say. Last night I sat by his bed for about 5 min laying him back down every time he sat up. When that didn't work he just laid there and kicked his feet around and played with the rails until he fell asleep which took another 10 min. At nap time today I sat by the door and had to tell him to lay down about 5 times and then he fell asleep within about 10 min. Looks like he might be ready! I can't believe I have to take the crib down again! Last time I did that I cried, I guess we'll see what happens this time.
So here are some cute pics I took while they were napping soundly today...

New trick

So, when Haydn climbed out of his crib and nearly broke his neck in the process I turned the crib around because the back is higher than the front. So far it's worked! This morning Connor comes into my room and this is the conversation...
Connor: "Mommy, I'm so proud of myself!"
Mommy: "Why Connor?"
Connor: "Because I got Haydn out of his bed all by myself! I watched you do it and I did it just like you!"
Mommy: "Oh really!"
In comes Haydn with the HUGEST smile and climbs right up onto our bed to tackle Scott and I with hugs!

Oh how I love having kids!

Comparing Crib Escapes

I talked about Haydn's escape from his crib before and I found it entertaining to compare it with Connor's. I thought everyone might enjoy it. It's amazing how different children can be. These crib escapes match their personalities perfectly. Connor is much more cautious about things he hasn't tried before or that look daunting. Haydn will watch others and then just go for it, NO FEAR.
Connor's planned perfect escape...

I DID IT.....

Today marks a special day! There were two "I did it!" moments in our family...

1) Haydn managed to climb out of his crib, several times in fact. He doesn't do it nearly as graceful as Connor did but for a 15th month old it is impressive none the less. He was very proud of himself to describe it lightly! He climbs up just enough to get his waist on the edge and then does a nice somersault, head first, to the floor! I switched his crib around, the back is higher than the front (it's working for now), and we've told Connor he is no longer allowed to climb in and out of Haydn's crib (part of their morning playtime routine) which I think aided in Haydn's early ability to climb out.

2)For the past 2 months I've been working on a running goal for myself. I started a Couch Potato to 5K program (http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml) and I reached my goal for the first time today. I ran for 30 minutes straight or 3 miles(5K) straight! Wow! There was no way I could have done this at the beginning so this is an awesome feat for me! Now I just have to keep doing it to stay in shape! I feel great when I run! So anyways, this is my new hobby I am doing for myself!

Haydn's "Hi!"

Haydn is really getting into sign language lately. He knows all the important ones that get him things--please, more, milk. He knows exactly where I have the basket of Easter candy and he goes in that room and sits down and very animatedly rubs his hand over his chest(PLEASE!) If I ignore it or say no sometimes he takes matters into his own hands. The other day he climbed up onto a little kiddy chair to reach on top of the dresser where the candy is. I walked into the room just as the chair slipped out form under him and he was hanging from the dresser. It was hilarious, only because I happened to have great timing and he didn't get hurt. Here's Haydn talking...

More Fun at Grandpa's

We went to my Dad's to spend some extra time with the family. It was especially nice to get some extra time with my sister, Susie, who I don't get to see very often. The kids had a great time together. I love how silly Haydn looks in these sunglasses too. He let me put them on and then he actually left them untouched while he walked around for a few minutes. It was sooo cute!

Connor and his aunt and uncle spent nearly all their time riding bikes and playing on the trampoline. Connor really liked the tramp this time. Grandpa had fun bouncing the kids around and as you can see they LOVED every minute.

A Couple Things...

Haydn was walking around like this today. I thought it was funny so I got a pic.

Here's another cake I did. I made this for our playgroup Easter party. Connor had fun helping me dye the coconut and put jelly beans on top. He couldn't wait to eat it the next day!
