So for all my LDS friends out there you will get a kick out of this. There is a new version of the movie Johnny Lingo now that tells "the whole story." In it, if you haven't seen it, is this young boy (who becomes Johnny Lingo) that builds a one-man boat at escapes from an island where he isn't accepted only to land on the island where a man named Johnny Lingo lives. If you haven't seen or heard of it you are probably confused. Anyways, cute movie. Back to the story...the boat he builds he has paddle with his hands, at least until he gets to where he can use his sail.
So, I was reading a children's book of mormon with Connor today. It's this great simplified picture board book. I highly recommend it to all you parents out there. We were reading about Nephi and the ship he had to build to sail across the ocean. Connor was telling me, by looking at the pictures, what the book was about and when he came to that page he told me. "They are building a boat to sail in the ocean, and they have to move like this (followed by a swimming/paddling motion), just like Johnny Lingo." Anyways, I thought it was too cute.
For another story, later we were playing on our LoveSacs and he was doing a cool jumping move. He really wanted me to join in so he says, "Come on Mom! Try it! It's sooo cool!" What a cute we have!

Reverse Psychology
It's funny - as a parent, I find myself doing whatever I can to manipulate my 2-year-old into doing what I ask him to do. Sometimes this means employing reverse psychology, as in, "Connor, you had better not brush your teeth before bed! Don't do it!" Invariably, he sets out to do that which has been forbidden. I like to think that he picks up on the playful tone of voice I use and responds accordingly, but I can never be sure. Is he being playful, or just stubborn? Maybe it's better not to know...
In any case, it has worked without a hitch. "Connor, don't go to the bathroom before we leave the house!" "Connor, don't go and get your pj's!" This trick tends to work on our boy.
This morning, however, Connor became aware of this tactic. We had just given him a shower and I asked him to go and get his clothes (by telling him that he had better not do so). He started to respond that he sure would go get them, but instead he stopped after the first few words, looked at me with a twinkle in his eye, and said, "Daddy no go get my clothes! Don't do it!"
It's all downhill from here...

Connor Says...
Today, just as I was about to put Connor down for a nap, Haydn woke up and wanted some attention. Haydn was a little upset and Connor says to him, "Haydn, I'm sorry! I have to take a nap(said with a little disdain)." Then he turn to me and says, " Mommy I can't go to sleep. Haydn needs me!" Good try Connor! At least he's already looking out for his little brother before himself.
Easter and more...
Cute pics of our boys! Aren't they the sweetest things! Maybe someday they'll both be baseball players. The pin stripes are adorable. Our sleeping angel! Handsome doesn't do him justice!Connor and his future fiancee...according to him.
We went to an easter egg hunt at a golf course with our friends the Wests and their girls, Anika and Keslie. It was lots of fun.Dying eggs at home. Connor loved mixing the colors and drawing on them with special pens.

TRIUMPH
I have to brag about my little boy. Connor has been potty trained since October (not long after turning 2)! He took off and got the hang of it so fast! Well, he has had very few accidents and only wears a pull-up at night and nap time. He is almost always dry at naps but I do it as a just in case measure. On April 5, 2007 he woke up in the morning DRY! He did it today too! Two days in a row of nighttime dryness! Looks like we may be climbing the next hill already. He's growing up so fast!
Haydn Did...
Funny story...I was giving Haydn a bath in the kitchen sink this morning. Connor pulled up a chair so he could watch everything. He's my little helper that's for sure. Anyways, Connor kept asking me if Haydn had peed on me because he often does. While I was washing Haydn's hair and not watching his other end he apparently peed right up and hit Connor square in the arm. He totally missed the clean dishes on the rack next to Connor and myself but managed to hit Connor very nicely. Connor tells me "Mommy, Haydn peed on me!" I didn't believe him until he showed me his very wet shirt. Good shot Haydn!!! Oh, the joy of little boys!

First real smile!
It's a monumental day! I have been trying to get Haydn to smile at me for a month an a half now. Don't get me wrong, he smiles all the time but only when sleeping and sometimes when he's alert but it was never at me! He's always so busy staring at everything else going on or the nice contrast of our walls and dark doorways. Today we had a whole little conversation with cooing and smiles and of course Haydn's signature sound...grunts. I love this little angel! I'll get pics up just as soon as I can capture one...hopefully only a matter of time.
Also, today he laughed for the first time...but he was sleeping when he did it. I had just finished feeding him so he was very content. He was laying on my legs and all the sudden this BIG smile comes across his face and he let out a little giggle. His tummy bounced and everything. It was so precious. This happened just moments before he smiled at me for the first time as noted above. Now it's my next goal to get him to laugh at me when he's awake.
